"We choose to go to the moon" the American response
September 12, 1962 at Rice University Houston president John F. Kennedy promises to see an American step on the Moon "Before the end of the Decade ". Kennedy confirms what he said 1 year ago in front of the United States Congress ,launching an Apollo program to bring American astronauts to the Moon.
The USA choose to go to the moon because it is a necessity , an ambitious space program to recover lost international prestige with the launch of the first man into space by the Soviets, Youri Gagarine at that time.
anecdote : One year later, Kennedy will propose to the Soviets , a collaboration within the UNO in the field of space exploration, rather than a competition. The USSR, accumulating spatial successes a that time, will not agree.
